Idea Igniters: Gender and Equity

Hosted by University of Calgary Chancellor, Deborah Yedlin, join UCalgary experts as they explore the evolution of gender in our society. How do the worlds of gender and education intersect? Join Dr. Michael Kehler, research professor in Masculinities’ Studies in Education as he discusses normative masculinity and the power, privilege and positioning of men within and beyond school settings. What are the causes and consequences of gender-based political inequality? Hear from Dr. Melanee Thomas, associate professor in the Department of Political Science, as she questions how gender affects political strategies and the interaction between gender, parental status and politics. What role does subversive activism play in addressing gender discrimination? Engage with Dr. Jessica Shaw, assistant professor with the Faculty of Social Work, as she discusses why some social activists choose to work outside of legal and medical systems in order to advance human rights globally.
